Syrup Desserts Now Open

The paper seen in this photo from earlier in August is now gone from Syrup, which opened its doors on Sunday.

Highly-anticipated sweet-spot Syrup Desserts opened its doors on Sunday morning, pulling back the paper covering its windows and adding sidewalk tables on Spring street.

Co-owner Stan Lin said this evening that diners in days one and two have been partial to waffles and crepes, with the hot weather leading to a big business in iced coffees and teas.

A name with "dessert" in it may not communicate morning, but Syrup opens in time for breakfast with pastries to go alongside coffee and the aforementioned favorites.

First week hours are 9am to 8pm, and Lin said they plan to expand that to 7am to 11pm next week. The eatery also just got its phone installed, and those with questions can reach the shop at 213-488-5136.

Looking forward to trying it, looks like the Yelpers have already nailed it.

Are they actually open? Are you sure this isin't another rough opening sneak peak thing?

They're open for real. They're still tweaking things -- for instance, they haven't put up the menu boards yet -- but they're open and serving.

It also struck me yesterday how cool it is to see sidewalk tables in front of California Fresh, Syrup and the little market two doors down. That little stretch of retail in the Hayward has a lot going on now.

We'll be there as soon as they extend their hours into late night territory. LA desperately needs more post-dinner options for those with a sweet tooth.

This place is so cool! I just had a crepe and some frozen yogurt and it was delicious. The guys who work there seem a little new to this "dessert" thing, but they will get the hang of it within a week. I could see this place becoming the new hangout for a lot of people. This block is starting to really come along. Please give us late hours!

I'm actually in this place right now. It has a very relaxed atmosphere mid-day, especially on the upper level with the recalcitrant light and subtle colors. The waffles are delectable, and provide for a great snack. I suggest the Original for those who aren't specifically sweet lovers but are in the mood for a snack. They melt in your mouth! They offer complimentary Wi-fi, late operating hours, and amicable employees. It's a great bang for the buck too!

I was here tonight and it was a packed house! There was a great ambiance here and it is definitely going to be the new hang out spot for Downtown LA. I just love whats going on in the corner with the outdoor seating.

I had the hand held crepe and was loving it.
