LAPD and LAFD vehicles fill the intersection of 4th and Main after an early morning accident left a Toyota Prius lodged among construction scaffolding at 4th and Main.
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — An early morning accident between a Toyota Prius and an LAPD cruiser closed 4th and Main streets for two hours this morning. LAPD and LAFD officers arrived on-site just before 6am and traffic was quickly diverted around the scene.
The patrol car was left sitting in the middle of the intersection, while the Prius ended up on the sidewalk among scaffolding for the Medallion construction site. The LAPD officers were removed onto stretchers.
An officer standing outside Pete's Cafe said that the department believed the vehicle had run a red light.
The diversion was not a happy surprise for early-rising commuters, who let their horns express their displeasure at being turned on to narrow Winston street.
The two streets reopened to traffic at 8am, after the Prius was removed.
Just three days ago a similar early morning accident left a vehicle two-thirds of the way inside the Wokcano restaurant at 7th and Flower.
