The colors of West Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center are constantly changing for the 61st Primetime Emmy's Governors Ball.

One down. One to go.

After Saturday's 2009 Creative Arts Emmy Awards at Nokia Theater L.A. Live, many in attendance walked across Chick Hearn Court for the Governors Ball, held at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Once inside, attendees saw a West Hall converted into a sultan's palace that went over the top of the rainbow, keeping with this year's theme "Let There Be Color."

"We wanted to make this year be a stunning and stately pleasure dome," said Leslie Frankenhiemer inside the massive hall at a recent media preview.

For those who have been in the West Hall for trade shows, it would be hard to get your bearings underneath 160 yards of purple stage fabrics, 48 fabric lanterns and 2,000 yards of ceiling treatment, that, along with table settings, use colors like Zanzibar, Lime, Royal Plum, and Cerulean. In the center, a rotating stage held a jazz band while the main stage hosted a dance band.

Overseeing the menu for the fourteenth year was Patina's Chef and Founder Joachim Splichal. "We followed the colors and tastes with our first course 'Flavors from the Farmers Market'," said Splichal, who pointed out sweet peppers, eggplant caviar and chips, layered multicolored potato salad, Toybox tomatoes and sweet melons.

Green is also a major theme as items from the decor and kitchen will be recycled. Moss and plantings from the floral arrangements, almost 9,000 stems of orchids and 20,000 stems of roses, will also be recovered.

The whole affair repeats this weekend. The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards are Sunday, September 20, at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live.

I love how no one mentions that ARAMARK, the food service provider for the Los Angeles Convention Center, has been green, using recycled/compostable products, since November 2007.
