Know Your Street Closures: L.A. Triathlon Runs Sunday

L.A. Triathlon 2009 Downtown Route LADOT

Triathlon participants will do their running stage on the streets of Downtown.

The 10th Los Angeles Triathlon makes its way from the Pacific Ocean to L.A. Live on Sunday morning, ending with a Finish Line Party and Expo on Nokia Plaza. As with any race event, it's important to know what's going on so that you don't find yourself stuck come Sunday morning.

The course enters Downtown on 11th street. Participants will make the transition from bike to foot in L.A. Live's west garage, then head up Cherry to Olympic. From there the course runs east to Grand. Runners will make either one or two trips up and down Grand between 1st and 11th before heading west on 11th and ending up at Nokia Plaza.

Downtown residents most affected by the event will be those on Grand Avenue and those between Olympic and 11th. If that's you, check with your building management to make sure you know whether there's any provision for you to get out during the race. Streets should be reopened by noon.

As with any big event, the best option for those without a pressing need to be somewhere else is to simply wander down and check out the festivities. More information can be found on the Triathlon website, and the full traffic plan can be found via LADOT.

I'm doing the Olympic distance, great to finish a race and walk home!

Blah blah blah...hope everyone's race went well. Our Choir Director wasn't able to get to church. We didn't go either - and we live within walking distance. I think we might be at the point of church on race days might make better "church from home" days.
