One of the pieces in "Le Chapeau," a couture hat collection from designer Alakazia.

Wednesday's early Fashion Week shows were a study in contrast, with colorful hats from Alakazia hitting the runway just before the monotones of martinMARTIN. The shows were part of Downtown Los Angeles Fashion Week at MOCA's Geffen Contemporary.

The more visually appealing show was Alakazia's "Le Chapeau" couture hat collection. Nearly fifty looks made their way down the runway atop scantily-clad male and female models.

Eduardo Lucero only showed a handful of looks in a presentation between runway shows, but it was enough to draw out Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

By far the night's biggest crowd was later on for MODE Israel L.A., a show featuring designers from Israel. Look for that this afternoon.
