Banners announcing a Wells Fargo at Figueroa and Olympic went up this week.
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — A little over a year after Wachovia announced it would be opening in a high-profile retail space adjacent to L.A. Live, a bank branch is indeed still coming soon. Wells Fargo, which bought Wachovia last October, put up banners for its future location this week.
When Wachovia announced in August of 2008 that it was opening its first Downtown branch in the high-profile corner retail space at 717 Olympic, many questioned why a glitzy space on a nightlife corner would go to such a 9-5 institution.
Shouldn't that spot go to something that might stay open late instead?
While that question remains valid, Wells Fargo apparently thought the lease was a Wachovia asset worth hanging onto.
The location makes sense for the bank, which despite a long presence Downtown only has five branches. None are in the South Park area.

Great..another bank...blah....boring. A bar would make a killing there.

Thank goodness! It is so hard to get to one of the banks in Downtown when you work in South Park! I can walk there during my lunch and bank!

Not sure how well a bar would do in that location. It'd be competing against all those LA Live establishments.

I guess it makes sense for a variety of businesses to be open in that area. LA Live has a good amount of food and spirits. A bank is OK, I guess. Retail would be nice, though.
