The Holiday Inn City Center will close soon, undergo a renovation and emerge next year as the Luxe City Center Hotel.

The Holiday Inn City Center will soon begin work on floor-by-floor renovations, emerging in Spring 2010 as the Luxe City Center Hotel. The facility is across the street from the $2.5 billion L.A. Live entertainment complex, and has long been eyed for a boutique upgrade.

Building owner Emerik Hotel Corp. will lead a multi-million renovation of the facility, and a press release says that the result will be a "four-star design-driven boutique hotel."

Luxe operates two hotel in the Los Angeles area: the Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel, Bel Air and the Luxe Rodeo Drive Hotel, Beverly Hills. It also represents and manages 200 hotels worldwide.

The renovated hotel will have just under 200 rooms, down from 250 in the current configuration. An interior designer has not yet been named.

Wonderful news!

As much grief and scandal the surrounds AEG, this renovation can arguably be contributed to AEG's investment in the area. Whether you like the company or not its hard to deny their influence in the area.

That's cool. One of the best hotel locations in the entire city. The demand for a higher level hotel there is easy to see.

Great news. Hopefully the remodel makes the stretch along Figueroa more pedestrian friendly. This hotel always felt suburban and out-of-place in a downtown environment.

This is really great news! It means more business for everyone, and a higher quality of clientele. Can't wait to see whatever rooftop lounge they put in (cause you KNOW they will).

excellent, i cant believe how poor the quality of hotels is in downtown LA, especially compared to other large cities. we really need more high-end hotels to help change the character of downtown. A st. regis, mandarin oriental, and a W, and a hyatt, and a few more boutique hotels like this luxe and edison by marriot/stark, would all be helpful.

It would be fantastic if the city would allow the new Luxe Hotel a pedestrian crosswalk for safe passage to and from LA LIVE...

I would like to see some retail below. Maybe a Hard Rock Cafe.

Do you know when this hotel is set to close as we were potentially going to book a group there for the Rose Bowl. Do you have any recommendations for for a decent mid range hotel in that area that you would suggest for my group that is great location? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hello Paige,

To reply to your post, The Holiday Inn City Center is not closing it's doors completely. We will be renovating floor by floor. You can contact our sales office and ask for Linda 213-748-1291 for any inquiries.

This truly will be an exciting renovation complimenting L.A. Live!

Thanks for the clarification. I'll update the story to reflect that.

@EUG

Or perhaps guests can walk the 100 or so feet to the light on Fig and Olympic. Or the one at Fig and 11th.

As Tim pointed out, this seems more out of place and feels suburban like. Hopefully it will be added on as close to the street level as possible, with retail and more restaurants at ground-level.

Please don't disappoint me, EHC...

Sebastian Mele on October 29, 2009, at 12:37PM – #14

Yes, please some retail would be so nice, like the ones they have in citywalk.
