L.A. Live Regal Offering Free Movies on Monday

Thanks for the info, Eric. I'll echo Rich's confusion. You have to get tickets, but when are tickets available? The day of? Just before the shows? Is it for Downtowners or open to everyone?

Same here, Pamela. I'm planning to go after work, but don't want to waste my time if there are hordes of people lining up all afternoon. All in all, it's a great gesture from the Regal people, so I'm not complaining. Just confused.

Free movies on Monday. That's fantastic. Downtown is so freakin' cool.

I called, the person at the box office was not sure if they would be checking ID's or not. The tickets will start being distributed at 5pm tomorrow, with a limit of 2 tickets per guest. I hope they will check ID's but I guess we'll see.

They told me 10:30 am and didn't mention a ticket limit. What gives??

You can always just bring in a power bill just in case.

Hey guys I work for AEG/Regal Cinemas and want to answer some questions you guys posted and wanted answers for. First off, there is no proof of downtown residents needed...I know this might upset some of you since you are afraid there will be outrageous lines but the good thing is that you can take some friends/family who don't live downtown for free. Tickets will be handed out beginning at 5pm today and it is on a first come first serve basis. Here is a list of the movies playing and the times they are playing at:

500 Days of Summer
PG -13 7:10 PM

District 9 R 7:20 PM

Funny People R 7:00 PM

G.I. Joe
PG -13 7:50 PM

The Proposal
PG -13 8:00 PM

Star Trek
PG -13 7:30 PM

Up PG 7:40 PM

Parking is 5$ for 4 hours with Regal validation and popcorn and drinks will be $1 on the second floor concession stand with the proceeds all going to charity (benefitting inner city arts).

Thanks, Jordan: my husband is happy he got to see District 9 on the big screen after all.

He went to pick up tickets @ 5 and said they sold out quite quickly. We got there at 6:45 for the 7:20 showing and most of the seats in our theater were taken already. Looks like it was a huge success.

Jordan: any chance of doing something like this again? Maybe a quarterly "downtown residents 2nd chance" night to let us catch movies we missed the first time around?

I had actually decided not to go, but passed by at 6:30 pm on the bus and saw it wasn't too busy. I saw Star Trek and the room was about three-quarters full. I know The Proposal and 500 Days of Summer were sold out when I arrived. It was a very nice touch to give guests a free ticket to the Grammy Museum. I wouldn't pay to go, but this is a smart way to get me in and maybe I'll end up buying some souvenirs. The staff at the Regal were all very nice and made a point of greeting everyone individually. Concessions were pretty pricey, but with so many options for food and drink at LA Live, I can do without.

I've lived Downtown for about five years now, and it was a great feeling walking out of the theater into the night by the impressive Marriot/Ritz building and walking through LA Live with all its restaurants and bars. Downtown has changed so much since I first lived in South Park. However, I was quickly brought back down to earth on my walk home, because I saw more people sleeping on the streets than I've seen in a couple of years. It reminded me that we've come a long way as a community, but we still have some problems we need to figure out. We're definitely at a tipping point, between the "old" Downtown and the "new". I couldn't help but feel that energy that goes with living in a big city for the first time in Los Angeles. I think the new Downtown will be quite the city. In the meantime, it's nice to be able to enjoy a movie without having to drive to another town :)

I should have started with a big Thank You to the Regal for putting on a free movie night for Downtown. It was awesome.

I also had a wonderful time at LA LIVE last night. Picked up tickets at 5:00 sharp for the 7:30 Star Trek showing. After the tickets, a friend and I did a little bar hopping at Trader Vic's, Rosa Mexicano and Wolfgang Puck. Was very impressed with Trader Vic's happy hour, and Rosa Mexicano wasn't too shabby either!

I was impressed with the facilities... the glass wall with a view of Downtown was great (though I can't wait until the west side of Downtown gets developed more). Met a lot of people and saw some old friends at the upstairs concession stand. Overall, a great experience and a solid theater. Thanks, Regal!

My wife wasn't feeling well, so we weren't able to make it. Sounds like we missed out. Bummer.

Despite the pooh-poohing about its appearance, the "corporate" movie theater may very well become an asset to the downtown community (and not just the concert/convention/sporting events crowd).

The new Regal at LA Live is wonderful! Contrary to what some may have thought (I'm looking at you Citywatch), the new theater is definitely a draw and I saw so many people crossing the street at Olympic Blvd./Georgia St. that I kept thinking how great it would be once the Hard Rock Hotel was up and running!
