"2012" First Premiere for L.A. Live's Regal Cinemas

The marquee outside the Regal Cinemas at L.A. Live announces the premiere for Sony Pictures "2012," the first premiere to be held in the new venue.

L.A. Live's new 14-screen Regal Cinemas hosted its first film premiere on Monday evening as stars of Sony Pictures "2012" walked a black carpet set up on Georgia street. The debut screening took place inside the new venue's 806-seat Premiere House, designed to lure such events away from Westwood and Hollywood.

Stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Woody Harrelson and Danny Glover were among those on-hand for the screening.

One of the Regal's selling points for premieres is that the events can be held without having to go to the city for street closure permits. Stars arrived via Chick Hearn Court and were let out next to the carpet on Georgia street.

It will be a few more months before anyone gets a true sense of how premieres in the space will feel. Construction is still a few months from wrapping up on the stacked J.W. Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels, so the Regal still feels a touch disconnected from the rest of the L.A. Live complex at the moment.

"2012" opens on November 13.

My concern isn't really the design anymore; it's more of what will be at the bottom of the Ritz on the Georgia side, facing the theater. In order for the Cinemas to be a success, among other things, it needs to have other ameneties on the other side of the street; otherwise, it may not be as pedestrian-friendly.

Sorry, I don't think "amenities" is the word I was looking for. I mean shops, retail, etc.

actually, georgia is a city street and does require city permits.

craig: My understanding is that there are pre-negotiated closure protocols between AEG and the City, so that the closures don't require the regular permitting process.

What will be at the bottom of the Ritz on the Georgia side?? The lobby entrance to the Marriot Hotel will be on the Georgia Side... It project to be busy 24/7 which will help Regal feel alive at L.A. Live!
