Flower Street Getting ... a New Parking Lot?

Rubble is cleared on Flower street, between 7th and 8th.

A small crew was hard at work Tuesday clearing rubble from the fenced-off site at 737 S. Flower, but don't get too excited thinking some mysterious project is about to start. The prep work appears to be related to long-dormant plans to turn the old building site into a surface parking lot.

Site owner Alpine Group LLC took out a building permit in 2006 to convert the site to a lot, leaving the torn-down building's basement intact underneath. Plans called for 67 parking spaces, 56 of them compact.

While it is unclear whether that permit has lapsed or been renewed, no more recent permits appear to have been issued.

The building on the site was torn down in the 1990s.

Great...now we have 3 new public parking lots opened or opening between 7th and 9th on Hope and Flower. My only fear is we get auto-centric demands in the area (i.e. left turn lanes, loss off on-street parking, etc...). My only fear is walking the sidewalks, especially between 8th & 9th on Hope street. There's 4 driveways within a 50 feet walk between the Quizno's and the Auction sales parking lot on the westside of the street.
