Have You Seen 'Bones?'
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Lost Tuesday evening, 'Bones' was last seen on Spring street near the Los Angeles State Historic Park, far from his home at 7th and Spring. He was wearing a black harness, and is described as "very friendly" with "a full waggy tail."
UPDATE (Tuesday): Bones has been found!
Bones should also perk up to the name Andrew.
Anyone who has seen bones is asked to call Andrew at 702-321-0438. A $500 reward is being offered for his return.

Bones is a great dog and a great neighbor. Please call Andrew with any information on Bones.

Maybe you should go stake-out the grass behind the new police station. It seems that's where all the downtown dogs go to crap now.

You are obviously a dog hater tornado. Please save these snarky comments for elsewhere. I have read your anti-dog remarks before and apparently you hold all dog owners responsible for the few who are inconsiderate.

I hope they find Bones. He's a great dog. If there's an update please post it.

If you like, drop off some flyers at Pershing Square. Someone may have found him and may walk him at the park. Staff will alert security, post flyers in the pet area and keep an eye out for your dog. The community is on the look out and we look forward to his return.

Thank you sooooo much. I will do that also. I really appreciate everyone's help and support. It lights me up. I just ran out of ink... That's my baby boy, best friend. Heading to the shelters now. Wish me luck.

Are the BID bike riders aware?
Oh it breaks my heart in a million pieces. I am praying for a safe return and restored joy to both pet and guardian!

The shelters are important places to look and keep looking. The North Central facility on Lacy Street would be my first stop given where Bones went missing.

I'd paper all the main streets south of washington where he was last seen espically areas where there are fast food resturants. My pug wandered off one day and I found him eating at a cafe on Franklin.

BID bike riders
are those the guys in purple or the a cycle group? how can I contact them? I told the bikers in purple the district safety I think it is
aweezelhed on November 30, 2009, at 02:54PM – #15
Call Hal at the BID he's a great guy, a animal advocate and he will be able to alert the purple people on bikes and on foot to keep an eye out for Bones. Get the BID purple people flyers too. They can have them in their pocket in case they see the dog roaming. Also stop by the "Lofty Dog" and leave some flyers with Cabrini. She helped me place a dog I found at P/S. She's connected in the Downtown animal community.

Thank you very much I will do this right away.

You can also go on the Los Angeles Animal Services web site and register a lost pet. I'm not sure but I think that will alert all the different facilities that Bones is missing and has an owner looking for him. You may even be able to send a picture of him and post it on their web site.

Great team work Downtown Community. Can't wait to see Bones visiting Pershing Square's pet area soon. Is there a Holiday screen play in this...?
Ravi on December 01, 2009, at 03:45PM – #22
Thank God! My heart is all warm inside. I am so happy that the story ended so well! You got Hallmark's A Dog Named Christmas beat by miles!
The BID Bike Riders (more commonly known as the Purple Shirt Guys on this blog) gave me a (purple) card that I have in my wallet.
For additional information, please call the DCBID Service Center at 213-624-2425 or visit at 528 Spring Street.

ANDREW!
Excellent news.
Now get that dog microchipped!
Benjamin Pezzillo on December 02, 2009, at 01:30PM – #24
Bones was microchipped. Microchips do not "locate" dogs. They are not GPS devices.
All the unpowered chip does is store an identification number that can be scanned for and read using a RFID system. The number is then connected with the owner's information.
Chips only work if the dog is recovered in the shelter system or through someone who has a chip reader, the chip is found and the contact information is current.
Bones was found because of Andrew's tireless efforts paid off when someone spotted him near where he had been lost and recognized Bones because of Andrew's legwork.

i don't know the circumstances in which you lost bones, but i'm glad you found him.
that being said, this brings up a pet peev of mine. why is it that downtown dog owners insist on not using a leash on their dogs? i don't care how well behaved they think their dogs are, but most downtown dog owners barely have control of their dogs when they're on a leash, let alone running free! when walking our dogs, both my wife and i have had several incidents with unleashed dogs and their owners. we have had dogs try to attack our dogs, and we have had dogs follow us, ignoring their owners.
our dogs may not be the best dogs in the world, but i know that i have full control when they're on a leash.

The LAMC requires leashes at all times when a dog is off your property or place of residence. The only exception is a dog park.
Enforcement of this requirement is a different issue but certainly nothing stops a citizen from contacting Animal Services or LAPD with a complaint about an unleashed dog.
The LAMC also requires all dogs and cats to be microchipped.
nanorich on December 03, 2009, at 11:04AM – #27
I apologize for my cluelessness with regard to microchipping.
I am thrilled Bones was found...
