Dolores O'Riordan of The Cranberries performs a November show in Montreal.

Irish rock band The Cranberries is back on tour after a six year break-up. This Friday, December 4, the band will play a sold out show at Club Nokia, but we've got tickets for blogdowntown readers who want to relive a bit of the 1990s courtesy of Goldenvoice.

The band rose to popularity with its 1993 debut release, "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?" and its 1994 followup, "No Need to Argue."

Opening the night is Nashville's Griffin House.

Want to see the show? We've got five pairs of tickets to give away. Just leave a comment letting us know why you should win, and include a way for us to contact you via email or Facebook. Contest closes Thursday at 8pm.

When I first turned on a radio station that wasn't talk radio or oldies (these stations having been burned into me by my parents' strict control over the car's radio dial), the Cranberries' "Dreams" was the first song to reach my young, impressionable years. It was an oasis in a desert ruled by Rush Limbaugh, who lorded over the radio desert like Zardoz, and the "Bird is the Word" song, both of which have scarred me for life.

The Cranberries saved my life. Because of them, I have survived my upbringing and will still be around to save you all from the (ahem) Zombie uprising. So, really, a pair of tickets is the least you can do, you ungrateful bastids.

I would LOVE to go! The Cranberries were one of the very first bands I fell in love with as a child. They inspired an artistic path in me that was excited to be alternative and comfortable being dark and odd and simultaneously beautiful. I still listen to them these days as I am designing the newest Skingraft collections and I have still never seen them live in concert.

I am a big fan of the cranberries. Cranberries music helps me to calm down and not be so moody. This music has helped me in times when I was depressed. It is awesome. Plus, it is me. Thanks to the cranberries I am cured of mental illness. The psychiatrists have prescribed their music for all types of mental illness. Plus I am a combat action ribbon former marine...and I am not a zombie , I am an American Responsible for my actions I will never forget that I am an American, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.

I still know my general orders and I know how to tie a half Windsor knot.

Because that song of theirs is in my head.

Oscar on December 02, 2009, at 08:55PM – #9

Because I lost my virginity to "When you're gone"...

And I never saw her again... (and no she wasn't a hooker!)

My girlfriend loves the Cranberries and its her birthday weekend .... I would love to surprise her and take her to the concert. We have never been to Club Nokia. Either way, thank you for your blog, it provides interesting information for all things downtown.

Andrea on December 02, 2009, at 09:50PM – #11

I can't compete with Oscar's story :) but I have great memories of the 90's with their music and would love to see them live. Thanks!!

Frank on December 02, 2009, at 10:35PM – #12

If I don't win then someone who doesn't love them as much as I do will win!!!

Neil on December 02, 2009, at 11:09PM – #13

1) The Cranberries are the greatest band ever. 2) Dreams is the best song ever. 3) And I sound like Dolores when I sing Ode To My Family. 4) And you'll make me very happy :)

Courtney on December 02, 2009, at 11:48PM – #14

I should win because disfunctional Irish families are absolutely what I'm best at. And I might as well enjoy somebody else's, since I've spent the last 4 years 3,000 miles away from my own.

Ed A on December 03, 2009, at 01:31AM – #15

I saw them at Universal/Gibson about 5 years ago and spilt red wine all over my shirt before the show started so I bought a cheesy Universal t-shirt at the Walk and trashed the wine shirt in the trash can. So please no promises and yeah wine goes well with cranberries.

Veronica M. on December 03, 2009, at 06:02AM – #16

My husband loves the cranberries, I would love to win some tickets through you and pass them off as a Christmas present from me ;).

nd on December 03, 2009, at 06:29AM – #17

I remember when i broke up with a certain person and i was soo depressed and sad and all i did was stay in my room and listened to the cranberries…… at first i would listen to when your gone, empty, linger… then when i was getting a bit over it i would listen to daffodil lament. Then wen i was mad and started to get really over it, i listened to promises extensively!!!

Warren J on December 03, 2009, at 08:24AM – #18

Because when other male kids were playing in the neighborhood and kissing girls, I was memorizing the lines to Clueless. Who could forget the classic Elton line: "Yeah, I can't find my Cranberries CD. I've gotta do to the Quad before somebody snags it."

This alone should win me all five sets of tickets but I'd be appreciative to receive just one set.

Saturday is my 10-year anniversary, and my wifey loves the Cranberries!

Dan on December 03, 2009, at 09:28AM – #20

Would love to see the Cranberries... One of the only pop bands I really enjoy. My wife and I still sing their songs sometimes as a soundtrack to our teen days!

Gavin on December 03, 2009, at 10:04AM – #21

I have always been a huge fan. they were huge when i was in college (class of 96) and my nickname amongst many if not most of my friends for a long time was "zombie." one of my best friends and roomates at the time would start singing Zombie with my name added in during the chorus when i entered the room. i also have several books with zombie in the title as a result of this monicker. i have a bootleg of one of their shows from their tour for their second album and they put on a great show. As an irish american on both sides of my family tree i also feel a strong kinship with the group as i do with many other irish acts over the years.

Kari S on December 03, 2009, at 10:35AM – #22

Would love to see these cats! Their cds were probably some of the first I ever bought on my own so they will always have a special place in my heart. Who wouldn't love to go and scream ZOMBIE ZOMBIE!!

Oscar on December 03, 2009, at 12:39PM – #23

I was unable to get tix! I'm a huge fan and remember them helping me get through High School. Also, I went to Dolores last concert at the HOB Sunset and it was cancelled on the second song due to the drummer having a seizure and she never rescheduled.

Kevin on December 03, 2009, at 01:23PM – #24

Please give me a ticket! Here are my (hopefully) good reasons: 1)I'm a downtown resident who actively participates in the community! 2)I have Irish duel-citizenship but have never seen this, one of Ireland greatest exports! 3)I have bought every single cranberries album since I was in junior high and can sing as high Dolores. And yes, I am a man, and yes, this is embarrassing. I should get a ticket for being so honest about the emasculating fact. 4) Eric, we have never met, but Matt downstairs at Bolt Barbers keeps thinking I'm you. I smile and wave. I'm re-affirming your reputation as an all around nice guy! ... Thank you for your consideration.

Just for my name...alone. :)

Tom De Simone on December 03, 2009, at 03:20PM – #26

I fell in love with the Cranberries because a girl I had a crush on in 7th grade happened to love the band. She talked about the group at school and I suddenly wanted to listen to them. Turns out I was queer as a $3 bill the whole time, but the Cranberries are still awesome.

Mona on December 03, 2009, at 04:39PM – #27

Plain and Simple, I am like the only Mexican Dude that likes the Cranberries and I would like to check them out. Also being that I am from Idaho, I might never get to see them in concert. I am also a USC student who is dying under all the stress of finals and would love a chance to just relax, and this concert would be the perfect oppurtunity.

Thanks,

Rick-arrama
