Today is Monday, January 4, and the calendar is light as City Council returns for its first sessions of 2010. At Council is a plan to create a commission that would market Los Angeles to the filming industry. Pubic Works, meanwhile, will consider a pair of amendments to the City's recently passed Special Events ordinance.

MONDAY: No meetings.

TUESDAY: Council's in session, and that's it.

Item 29 is CF 09-3004, an Alarcon / LaBonge motion asking the CLA's office to report on what it would take to create a Los Angeles Film Commission that would be in charge of promoting Los Angeles to the film industry.

WEDNESDAY: Council returns, and is joined by three committees.

At Public Works committee are a pair of motions amending the City's newly adopted Special Events policy.

CF 09-3042 is a Huizar / Perry motion asking that an ordinance be prepared to require that sponsors of special events perform public outreach within a block of the event, and that failures to notify be considered in future applications for special event permits.

The motion says that "A recent street closure downtown has brought to clear focus the need to increase outreach for special events." That's a reference to the Fred Jordan Mission's October 1 shoe giveaway.

CF 09-3044 is a Huizar / Hahn motion asking that non-profits and community groups be allowed to pay special event permit fees on an installment basis, instead of all at once.
