Commander Blake Chow and family after being sworn-in.

During his short stint as Captain of Central Division, Commander Blake Chow brought some online savvy to the downtown police station. He sent out weekly update emails that he allowed us to post here on blogdowntown and was an easy find via email or Facebook.

On Thursday, though, readers are invited to meet the Commander in person at a community celebration in honor of his recent promotion.

It's also a chance to wish him a slightly-belated birthday. Chow's Facebook page is filled with birthday wishes from yesterday and today, many posted by Downtown residents.

Tomorrow's celebration will take place from 4 to 7pm at Cafe Metropol, in the Arts District (923 E. 3rd).

ALSO: The Arts District weekly Neighboodhood Watch Walk (and Dog Walk) has been working at gaining momentum again. It takes place tonight, Wednesday, January 20, from 6:30 to 8pm and is billed as a rain-or-shine event. As always, people meet at Traction and Hewitt in front of what was once Bloom's General Store. There are a few stops along the way, some for people and some for the canines.
