Guests visit the lobby of the new 878-room JW Marriott at L.A. Live. The hotel opened its doors at 10am this morning.

The hotel won't hold its ribbon cutting until Tuesday, but L.A. Live's new 878-room JW Marriott opened its doors this morning, welcoming guests from concert industry event Pollstar Live.

While Downtowners with their own beds nearby may not have as immediate a need for the rooms upstairs, today is also opening day for the hotel's three bars and its lobby restaurant, the Kerry Simon-helmed LA Market.

As first reported by blogdowntown in November, Simon is the restaurant's consulting chef, and is in the kitchen for its first week of operation training staff on how to prepare items from the menu he designed. He will continue to be involved in any menu changes and will be dropping in monthly to make sure that the items are as he wants them.

Signature Simon items include wok charred edamame and "Tuna Dynamite" starters, as well as a "meatloaf" entree (quotation marks theirs, not ours) and a sushi pizza that features wasabi rice, tuna, crab and avocado.

Prices are moderate, with $14 - $18 sandwiches and mains running from $19 - $27. The restaurant opens for breakfast at 6:30am and serves dinner until 10pm nightly.

Cocktails are $10 throughout the hotel offerings. Along with the restaurant, those looking for a drink can choose from Glance, a bar located in the middle of the hotel's three-story lobby, the sports-bar themed Mixing Room, located on the corner of the hotel closest to Staples Center, and Ion, the 4th-floor poolside bar.

Glance offers wine selections by the glass from $8 - $20. Four beers are on tap: Blue Moon, Bud Light, Bass Ale and Stella Artois. A small bites menu offers choices from $9 - $17, but those in the know can also get anything off the L.A. Market menu served in the lobby. The lobby bar will open at 11am daily.

The Mixing Room offers eight signature cocktails, as well as ten draught beers and a dozen bottled. A $9 "vertical small plates" menu offers six cold offers, six hot and four desserts. The venue will typically open at 4pm daily.

Opening in a month and also located off the hotel lobby is the Espressamente illy, one of the Italian coffee brand's first cafes in the United States. Many of the furniture pieces are being made in Italy and shipped here for installation.

Everything was operating smoothly Monday morning as guests filtered into the hotel, but Food and Beverage Director Paul Rossi said that the real test will come tomorrow evening when the Lakers play their first of two home games this week.

A final restaurant and lounge will open upstairs in the Ritz Carlton on March 15. While details have not been announced, rumors have consistently named the omnipresent Wolfgang Puck as consulting chef.
