Luxe Releases Room Mockup for City Center Renovation

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — When South Park's Luxe City Center Hotel emerges from its current renovation in June, it will have a look far different from its years as a Holiday Inn.
Luxe today sent out a release talking up its choice of local interior firm SANDdesign to handle the redo. It says that the new look will give the hotel an "upscale urban residential atmosphere with a touch of elegant old silver screen."
The renovation will take the hotel from 250 to just under 200 rooms and suites. Luxe Hotels, which operates independent hotels around the world, is positioning the property as a trendy boutique.
"From the very beginning, I envisioned the Luxe City Center Hotel, Los Angeles to be a very design driven hotel with an upscale boutique ambiance to complement the Luxe Rodeo Drive and Luxe Sunset Boulevard," said Luxe CEO Efrem Harkham in the release.
The hotel is located just across the street from L.A. Live, where AEG and Marriott just opened an 878-room JW Marriott and will soon open a 123-room Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Hoteliers are counting on an uptick in convention business to buoy occupancy rates across Downtown.
Emerik Hotel, LLC owns the hotel building.

Will there be any redesign of the exterior of the building, specifically the ground floor at the street?

I was really hoping for something original or interesting for that property, such a great location and that room makes me yawn... a "trendy boutique" should try pushing a boundry or two. Nothing new there!

I really don't understand hatred of this property at the street level. Granted, it's not the most interesting design but is it really all that different from what the Marriott and Ritz have done with their front drop off areas? I haven't really heard any complaints about they those have no interaction with the street or sidewalk.

I'm wondering what the exterior of the building will look like after the overhaul? Certainly the tacky big "Holiday Inn" sign on the roof will be removed, which by itself should help the building's appearance.
As for the rooms and the hotel overall, the bigger problem is that it -- not to mention the new hotels at LA Live too -- is located in the middle of an area that remains conspicuously full of unattractive parking lots and seedy small buildings.

It would seem that the conversion of this property to a boutique LUXE Hotel will give convention attendees a real third Hotel option outside of the JW Marriott and the Ritz. I would imagine that LA Inc. is excited about having a higher end hotel in the proximity to sell conventions on downtown LA. With that said they really need to give the street level entrance more of a sense of arrival and carry this into a complete lobby overhaul. It is not terrible right now, but it doesn’t have a sense of arrival. As for the rooms rendering it is always hard to get the real look and feel out of a digital rendering with no texture. I hope they upgraded the case goods for this project, the case goods in the JW Marriott look like they came out of a Holiday Inn being all made of plastic laminate over particle board. The furnishing quality at the JW really shocked me.

Motel 6 beds or Hilton beds?
