Today is Monday, March 22. As City Council continues to look for ways to cut the budget and raise revenues, El Pueblo comes under scrutiny in a special single-topic committee meeting. Neighborhood council funding talks continue, as do talks of up to 4,000 layoffs.

MONDAY: Four committees have meetings scheduled.

At Arts, Parks, Health and Aging is a discussion of the budget for the Cultural Affairs department and potential restructuring of department operations.

TUESDAY: Council is in session, as are four committees.

At the week's second meeting for Arts, Parks, Health and Aging -- hosted at Pico House -- is a discussion of El Pueblo's budget and potential department restructuring. The state, the county and the El Pueblo non-profit are asked to give verbal reports on their thoughts on the future of the monument, and FilmLA is asked to weigh in on filming. Also included is a report on efforts to complete new leases with El Pueblo tenants.

Council considers budget issues, including CF 10-0475, a proposed rate hike by the Department of Water and Power.

Education and Neighborhoods will continue discussion of CF 09-0600-S187, the proposed consolidation of the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment and changes to the neighborhood council funding program.

At Jobs and Business Development, CF 10-0091 is a report on business improvement districts that did not renew for 2010. There was only one: the Toy District BID.

WEDNESDAY: Council returns, with three committees.

Council continues to focus on the budget, including a discussion of up to 4,000 layoffs and the impact of reduced staffing in the City Clerk's office.
