The May 2009 "Full Rights for Immigrants" march passes 1st street while traveling north on Broadway.

Another "Full Rights for Immigrants March and Rally" will make its way up Broadway on Saturday, and a full set of street closures will accompany participants as they make their way through Downtown. The march is slated to start at noon, but LADOT will start closing off Broadway at 11am and cross-streets by 11:30am.

In their application to the city, organizers said they expect 10,000 marchers. Garment & Citizen publisher Jerry Sillivan wrote on the website New America Media today that he expects the turnout to be much larger.

"The guess here is that the grassroots will once again take command by turning out in significant numbers, topping the 25,000 mark," Sullivan wrote.

blogdowntown isn't so sure. Immigration marches have uniformly failed to attract significant turnouts since the 500,000 person affairs of 2006. Turnout has consistently been just a fraction of what organizers have expected.

Regardless of turnout, cross-street closures will stretch from Olympic to Temple. Streets will be reopened once the march has passed.

Any immigrant who came through the process legally already has "full rights". These protests are an insult to those who did or are doing it right. The rest are like that guy that goes around the line on the freeway and then cuts off everyone who waited and followed the rules and respected the rights of others.

My question is: Where is the INS? Why don't they get a big bus and wait for the illegals at the end of the parade and just pick them all up? If they did that, perhaps we would eliminate "Mexico style" kidnappings and murders. We'd reduce or eliminate the heroin being given away to children to get them hooked. We might actually reduce gang problems/members. And a lot more funds would be available to legal immigrants and legal citizens for public services. It's all coming out of our pockets and damaging our communities and families.

Bigphatcatlover: It's not INS anymore, maybe if you were caught up with everything you would've known that. And about the heroin being given out to kids, its not only the "illegals" who are giving them away. It's also up to the person who it is "given" to to either take it or not. Not everything is to be blamed on the illegals, get out of the little box you're mind is in and see the world the correct way, not the way it is portrayed by those around you.
