Neon Fans Get Lit
Ed Fuentes
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — MONA Neon Cruise Tour and urban archaeologist / author Eric Lynxwiler paid homage to the neon artifact that once graced the entrance of Craby Joe's on Saturday.
Joined by a handful of dedicated neon-ites, including Kim Koga, director of the Museum of Neon Art, and Jeremy Hansen, who saved the sign from a probable demise, Lynxwiler led into the lighting dedication with Craby Joe's stories and lore.
The sign has been lit for a few weeks, and the skid row commercial refugee has secured its place as pop-culture art piece. Still, those formalities did not prevent Lynxwiler from his showmanship. He cued the lighting "so we can all drop jaw and worship."
Craby Joe's Neon Sign is displayed at Raw Materials, 436 S. Main Street. It is illuminated from 7 to 9pm nightly, and is visible from the sidewalk.

I wish one of the old long-time drinkers of the bar had been tapped to speak. Where were the old alcoholics? The Baltimore Hotel and the King Edward Hotel still house some of these original boozers. They could have been found there.
