Around the Halls: March 29 - 31, 2010

Today is Monday, March 29, and the City is off today in observation of Cesar Chavez Day. Council returns on Tuesday with light agendas that continue to have a heavy focus on the budget. The DWP rate hike is still up for discussion, as is a 30-day freeze in El Pueblo rent talks.

MONDAY: City offices are closed in observance of Cesar Chavez Day.

TUESDAY: Council and the Energy and the Environment committee are in session.

Energy and the Environment continues discussion of DWP's proposed rate hikes, under CF 10-0475.

At Council, item 6 is CF 10-0330, an agreement to let the City Employees Association sell approved merchandise with the city logo on it to the public. The association operates a store on 2nd street, between Spring and Main.

Item 12 is CF 09-1584-S2, a Huizar / LaBonge motion asking for a "30-day cooling off period" for rent increase talks at El Pueblo. The motion also sets up a negotiating team to continue discussions.

Item 15 is a full Council discussion of the DWP rate hikes.

WEDNESDAY: Only Council has filed an agenda.

At Council, item 4 is CF 09-3011, a motion asking departments to prioritize their remaining travel expenses for the fiscal year. The motion also calls for a review of travel by elected officials.

Item 14 is general manager reports relative to specific layoff plans, including numbers and titles of jobs to be eliminated.
