Saturday: Pillow Fight Returns to Pershing Square
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — How do idealists create a free event in public space that crosses into pop culture and replaces "passive, non-social, branded consumption experiences like watching television?" Pillow fight, baby.
Just be sure to play on the grass.
This Saturday, April 3, is International Pillow Fight day, and once again Pershing Square is the Los Angeles battleground for the social feather-pillow warfare.
In previous years, loose feathers have clogged up drainage systems and repair was costly, so the City is requesting organizers move away from the fountain.
"It's what we used to call a happening," say Louise Capone, Pershing Square's Senior Recreation Director. "We just ask the organizers to move the pillow fight on to the grass. We will have maintenance people there with bags and brooms so people can clean up."
Feathers fly at 3pm. More local information can be found at pillowfightlosangeles.com.

This event is great. Even if you don't plan to pillow fight, go and check it out, it is so much fun to watch too.

It's great to see the park used as a fun area. Does the park always have to be used in an orginized fashion? No it doesn't. Since daylight savings it's dog heaven after 5pm and I saw some guys tossing a football the other day during lunch. I'm actually looking forward to the art in the windows agin this summer. Just because St. Patty's Day slip away it doesn't mean the neighborhood is turning the park back over to the drug dealers. We just started having fun at Pershing Park.
