Workers prepare flowers on the site where a statue of Lakers broadcaster Chick Hearn is scheduled to be unveiled on Tuesday.

It's in the refrigerator, Chickie Baby will be bronzed.

A bronze statue of the late Lakers play-by-play announcer Chick Hearn will be held on Tuesday, April 20, hours before the Lakers play the second game of their 2010 playoff run inside Staples Center.

The Hall of Fame broadcaster announced Lakers games for 42 years, including a record 3,338 consecutive outings. His career began in 1961, when the team played at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, and spanned the years at the Forum and the team's move to Staples.

The Omri Amrany-designed sculpture, weighing in at 5,000 lbs, will join Wayne Gretzky, Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Oscar De La Hoya in the arena's Star Plaza.

It's the latest in a long line of Hearn honors in and around Staples Center. A banner with Hearn's name and a microphone hangs under the Lakers' championship banners, the press room is named in his honor, the Pico Blue Line station carries his name and the portion of 11th street outside the arena is named Chick Hearn Court.

Starting with the unveiling, fans are invited to "broadcast along with Hearn," as they sit in an open seat next to the Hall of Famer in his broadcast booth.

The ceremony is free to the public and begins at 4:30pm. The unveiling is scheduled for 5:05pm.
