Police have identified a suspect in the Friday killing of popular Skid Row resident Conrad Fitzgerald Phillip. An arrest warrant was issued Friday evening for Charles Colbert, 50, after police reviewed video footage from the murder.

“The detectives worked non-stop on this case,” said Lt. Paul Vernon, head of Central's detectives. “After viewing video footage and searching the victim’s history, we were able to tie Charles Colbert to Phillip and to the shooting.”

Colbert, who may also go by the name Anthony Williams, is a resident of the Pershing Hotel at 502 S. Main street. The building is a single-room-occupancy hotel owned by the Skid Row Housing Trust. Police searched his apartment overnight, but Colbert remains on the loose and is considered to be armed and dangerous.

The shooting took place at 5:15am on Friday, outside the Santa Fe Lofts at 6th and Los Angeles.

Police are asking anyone with information on the crime to call Detective Al Marengo, Central Homicide Unit, at (213) 842-0727.
