Suspect in Friday Murder Surrenders to Police

The suspect wanted for Friday's killing of Conrad Fitzgerald Phillip turned himself in to LAPD's Southeast Police Station on Sunday night. Charles Colbert, 50, called the detective on the case after seeing himself on the news.

An warrant for Colbert's arrest was issued Friday night.

Colbert is being held without bail at the Downtown Metropolitan Jail. He was a resident of the Pershing Hotel at 5th and Main, a single-room-occupancy hotel operated by the Skid Row Housing Trust.

Police are still looking for more information in the shooting, which took place at 5:15am on Friday, outside the Santa Fe Lofts at 6th and Los Angeles. Phillip, known on Skid Row as "Dread" on account of his hair, was fatally shot one time in the head.
