A Round Car in a Square World
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Back in February, blogdowntown met up with digital video guru Vincent Laforet to talk about how a Pulitzer Prize-winning still photographer becomes the go-to guy for video on new digital SLR cameras.
Laforet was Downtown to shoot a short film for Canon, though we weren't allowed to mention that at the time. The camera company had asked that Laforet do something to show off the capabilities of its new 1D Mark IV and he decided to shoot a spec ad for the VW Bug, telling us at the time that it was a "simple little story" about the "dichotomy of geometry."
The ad, as well as the first in a series of behind the scenes videos by Canon, just went online yesterday. As usual, Laforet's blog includes a write-up of his takeaways from the shoot and the process of mounting a dSLR on a crane arm.

Did they finally fix the fast-pan deformation?

Guest: That's actually something that Vincent talks about in his blog post about the shoot. He thought the sensors did very well, though any CMOS device is going to have some limits with pan speed.
