The DLANC board of directors meets in the lobby of the Los Angeles Theatre in September of 2009.
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Statewide primary elections are underway today, but Downtown Los Angeles will vote in its new slate of elected representatives later this month. All 28 seats on the Downtown L.A. Neighborhood Council will be up for grab in the biennial election, which takes place on Friday, June 25.
On Monday evening the council will be hosting a candidate meeting designed to give those in the neighborhood a chance to meet the folks running for office. The event is scheduled to run from 6:30 to 8:30pm, and will take place at The Exchange (114 W. 5th).
52 candidates will be listed on the ballot, though only 13 of the 28 seats will decided by races in which there are more candidates than seats. Most popular is the Arts, Cultural and Education Interests Director position, with eight candidates vying for only three seats. Both the At-Large Director and South Park Business Director positions have four candidates running for a single seat.
The June 25 election runs from 2 to 8pm in order to accomodate both those who live and work Downtown. It too will take place at The Exchange.
More information can be found on the DLANC election news website.

It's good to see General Jeff running again, but where is Brady Westwater? Is it possible that he's finished with the neighborhood council?
Eric Richardson (@blogdowntown) on June 15, 2010, at 11:34AM – #3
Ciscustop: I believe Brady would be termed out. I didn't confirm this with him, but I believe he was first on the council in 2002, which would mean that his eight years are up.
Dixon on June 15, 2010, at 01:18PM – #4
Alas, what will the council be without Brady?
Bert Green (@bgfa) on June 15, 2010, at 05:07PM – #5
Brady stepped down from DLANC in February. He is also termed out, but decided to stop for health reasons.
Dixon on June 16, 2010, at 05:22PM – #6
Hey, Brady Westwater, I hope you're feeling better. Thanks for all the good work you did over the years on the neighborhood council!

Kim Cooper on June 25, 2010, at 09:13AM – #9
There are no term limits in Neighborhood Councils, despite what Bert Green says above. If Brady Westwater has chosen not to run, that is not the true reason. Hal Bastian would not be able to seek DLANC office, if term limits were in effect.

Kim Cooper is wrong about term limits.
This is from the Bylaws of DLANC:
Article VII: Elections 1. Election and Term of Directors and Alternates. Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council Bylaws Last Revised: April 8, 2008 Page 16 of 30 a. The City of Los Angeles, Office of the City Clerk will administer DLANC Board Elections b. Directors shall be elected for a two year term Each term shall commence on the first day of the month after the election. The election shall be close as possible to two years after the past election. Special elections shall be held by the relevant town hall meeting to fill any vacancy. No person shall serve as a Director for more than eight consecutive years. c. For DLANC board election for 2006, the election will be held the third quarter of the year. Following that, all future elections will be held in the second quarter. d. Alternate Directors. An Alternate Director shall replace his or her principal Director should the principal Director vacate his or her position on the Board. e. Vacancies. Should a vacancy occur in the principal Director and Alternate position for the same area and category of interest, a new Director and Alternate shall be elected within 30 days at a special town hall meeting in the area and category of interest vacated.
DLANC chose to include term limits in its Bylaws. This is not a city-wide mandate, it applies to DLANC only.
So please stop with the conspiracy theories. Remember Ruth Galanter's wise quote: I used to believe in conspiracies and then I discovered incompetence."
