Ryan Vaughan of Electronic Arts demonstrates the company's new Sims game to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa dropped in on the Electronic Entertainment Expo on Tuesday afternoon, touting the event's impact on the local economy and taking the chance to get to know a few new video games.

The Mayor toured the event with Mike Gallagher, President and CEO of the Entertainment Software Association. The group has produced the event since 1995.

The industry-only event has more than 45,000 attendees in 2010, with the number of vendors up 33 percent over 2009. It is committed to returning to L.A. in 2011, but has not yet signed a deal for future years.

The Mayor first spent some time in the Electronic Arts booth, where he chatted with CEO John Riccitiello and checked out The Sims 3 Ambitions and Need For Speed Hot Pursuit. Media and staff entourage in tow, he then paid a visit to the Disney area before stopping to watch a demo of Ubisoft's Kinect-enabled Your Shape: Fitness Evolved. In a final stop at THQ, the Mayor made a special request to go back and take a look at UFC Undisputed 2010 before departing the Convention Center.
