The DLANC board of directors meets in the lobby of the Los Angeles Theatre in September of 2009.

What's a better small town activity than having a meet and greet for local political candidates at the neighborhood supermarket?

The Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood council's election is coming up this Friday, June 25, and candidates for the 28-seat board of directors will be making their way to Ralphs (645 W. 9th) this evening to meet some neighbors and try to drum up voter turnout.

52 candidates will be listed on the ballot, though only 13 of the 28 seats will decided by races in which there are more candidates than seats. Most popular is the Arts, Cultural and Education Interests Director position, with eight candidates vying for only three seats. Both the At-Large Director and South Park Business Director positions have four candidates running for a single seat.

Friday's election runs from 2 to 8pm in order to accomodate both those who live and work Downtown, and will take place at The Exchange (114 W. 5th). More information can be found on the DLANC election website.

The Ralphs meet and greet will run from 6:30 to 8pm. No word on whether candidates will carry your groceries in exchange for a vote.

DLANC VOTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Hi All,

So it is confusing to vote for recommended candidates. I am providing a guide for you here that includes my recommendations. You can always go to the DLANC site for more information. Also, many of the people can be found on facebook if you need more info on them. The candidates that I am recommending are professional and good hearted people that have shown a dedication to their chosen area on the Ballots. Many have Urban Planning Degrees and other varied degrees. Please vote this Friday, it will really make a positive difference in your community.

In regards to the categories you can vote in here is an example: Julie Rico owns the business Weeneez, in addition, she owns and runs the Julie Rico Gallery, in addition lives in the Security Lofts. Which means I could vote for 3 different ballots -either the RESIDENT BALLOT or Arts, Culture and Education Committee Ballot or the Business Ballot. But I must choose ONLY ONE BALLOT AREA* to make my vote count. Below I have created a guide to help you navigate this complicated vote this Friday between 2PM-8PM. Weeneez will be open till 4:00PM if you need a copy of this guide. If you vote you can buy one dog and get one free! Please vote!

After the underhanded business dealings of Ms. Rico in connection with the recent closing of The Must, I can't imagine why anyone would be interested in her political suggestions, nor can I believe that anyone running for office would want her endorsement.
