DASH Changes Coming August 1

A DASH bus is prepped outside Disney Hall to kick off 2008's Late Night DASH holiday pilot, which was privately funded.
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — A ride on the DASH will require two coins starting on August 1. The city's Department of Transportation today officially announced the expected changes to its transit services, which also include Commuter Express buses and Cityride.
Fares will raise from a quarter to $0.35 on August 1, and then to $0.50 on July 1, 2011.
July 31 will also mark the end of service for three Downtown DASH routes: DASH C, which serves South Park; DASH DD, which offers a weekend loop; and the Central City East DASH, which serves Skid Row. A total of six routes are being cancelled citywide, while six will be modified or have reduced offerings.
The moves are all part of a package of measures intended to close a budget deficit projected to reach $350 million over the next ten years. Fares on Commuter Express buses are also going up, while Cityride offerings are seeing cutbacks.
City Council approved the changes at the beginning of the month, five months after they were originally proposed.
