Funeral services for fallen California Highway Patrol officer Philip Ortiz will take place at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels on Wednesday morning, June 30, impacting several morning commute routes through the Civic Center.

Ortiz, a 28-year veteran with the department, was critically injured earlier this month when he was struck on the 405 freeway during a traffic stop. He died on June 22 after two weeks in the hospital.

The Wednesday morning ceremony is open to the public, and is scheduled to start at 9:30am. Temple street will be closed between Grand and Broadway from 6am to 2pm, and north-south streets will likely see full or partial closures. A funeral procession to the Cathedral will precede the ceremony.

The ceremony is the third for a law enforcement officer to be held at the Cathedral in 2010. Marine and LAPD SWAT officer Robert J. Cottle was honored in early April, just weeks before a ceremony commemorating former LAPD chief Daryl Gates.
