A sizable troop from LAPD traveled 60 miles eastward into Riverside today to watch as former LAPD Deputy Chief Sergio Diaz took the oath office for his new role as Chief of Police for the City of Riverside.

Brass attending the ceremony included Commander Blake Chow, Commander Andy Smith, and Captain Jody Wakefield, all of whom worked with Diaz in Central Division in Downtown.

Diaz retired earlier this year after 33 years with the department.

"Leadership, respect and humility are the seeds of success," said Chow, when asked what he learned while under Diaz.

Held in Riverside's White Park, the brief ceremony ended with Diaz' closing remarks. They touched upon subjects not unfamiliar to Downtowners: reaffirming the department's mission and building community relationships.
