Downtown Women's Center Picked as Lilith Fair Charity
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — The Downtown Women's Center was picked by Lilith Fair founder Sarah McLachlan as the local charity for the all-female tour's Los Angeles area stop next week. The non-profit, which provides housing and services to homeless women on Skid Row, will receive $1 from each ticket sold for the July 10 event in Irvine.
Voting was conducted by the tour's fans on Facebook, with the top choices sent to McLachlan for final selection.
Downtown Women's Center has been located at 325 S. Los Angeles since 1976. The service provider had planned to vacate the building to provide space for the Medallian development, but instead will be renovating the pair of structures it occupies on the site. It is also renovating a building at 434 S. San Pedro into a center that will contain 71 apartment units.

To me it is a testament to the foresight of those which helped support the move of the Woman's Center when making room for the Medallion. Now women in downtown have even more representation from an organization that caters' only to women and a new place for women to have their own on San Pedro Street in the Heart of Skid Row. KUdos to Jan Perry on another job well done.
SArah Mclachlin is one of the very , very top artists I enjoy and I don't buy CD's often, but I bought plenty of hers and to think she supports one of the charities I luv, well, that just plain gives me them there goosepimples.
