Skidrow Street Ballers compete on top of the L.A. Live Event Deck during last year's Lakers 3 on 3 tournament.

Teams looking to throw their hat in the ring for next month's Nike Basketball 3 on 3 tournament at L.A. Live have a little extra time to do so, as the tournament tomorrow will officially extend the signup deadline to July 30.

They better get set for some heavy competition, though, as signups have already passed the number that participated in last year's inaugural event. A representative from the event said today that more than 1,000 teams are expected to eventually participate.

That would mean at least 80 to 100 courts set up on the streets around L.A. Live.

Creating brackets for that many teams is quite the undertaking, and the time needed get those entries done originally determined the July 16 deadline. Organizers from Spokane Hoopfest will now be helping with bracketing for the L.A. event. For them, a thousand teams must feel easy: the Spokane event is the world's largest 3 on 3 tournament, with 6,400 teams participating.

Signups are $160 per team for the youth, high school, adult and adult elite divisions. Teams in the Special Olympics and wheelchair divisions can enter free of charge.
