A curious canine gets close to our camera lens during the 2009 Dog Day Afternoon.

The year's biggest social outing for Downtown's canine population is just one week away, and already 376 pups have RSVP'ed for the 4th Annual Dog Day Afternoon at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

The event was started in 2006, hosted by "Joaquin" Kostelnik and "Buddy" Bastian. Buddy passed away in 2008, but "Scooter" Bastian continues where he left off.

Along with the doggy socializing and vendors, food and drink -- including Dodger Dogs -- will be available for people attending the event. While folks from anywhere are invited to attend, the event is intended for dogs who live Downtown.

More information and an RSVP form can be found on the Downtown Center BID's Dog Day Afternoon page.
