The summer music season kicks off at Pershing Square tonight as Theory of Flight and Terra Naomi open the Wednesday night BETA Records series.

It's one of three weekly nights of music for the park, which will also be offering a Thursday night Spaceland Under the Stars and the Saturday night Pershing Square Downtown Stage.

In all, the series offer 28 acts between now and August 21.

The Friday Night Flicks movie series also returns this weekend with a screening of the 1979 film "Boulevard Nights." The L.A.-themed series continues weekly though August 20th with showings of "Valley Girl" (1983), "Sunset Boulevard" (1950), "Miracle Mile" (1988) and "Escape from L.A." (1996).

The lineup this summer looks fantastic! I might even have to cancel my plans for tomorrow night.

"Boulevard Nights" is surprisingly good. Wish there could be more movies like this shown in town, that deal with Downtown and surrounding areas.

And, as for the rest, Fishbone, Fishbone, Fishbone!

It's great to have the music coming through my windows again! Wish they did it all year round...

LA Place food truck was at the concert last night. I was amazed a real place to eat food at Pershing Square. No more ratty tent food folks. Yea the sound was great last night but I'll pass on the band Theory of Night. PJ Peanut Butterworth tonigt. Spaceland bands are always the best shows at the park.

DJ Peanut Butterwolf was great last night at Pershing Square. The videos were funny. More DJ's at Pershing Square more more more.

Teen Inc played at Pershing Square last night and it was one of the best shows I've seen all summer. I have to compliment the park crew on sound. I'm not sure if it's the sound system or the music in the night air but the sound is very good. It's actually nice to see a concert at the park.

@Guest6

Butterworth?? Dude, he's Peanut Butter Wolf! He only founded one of the most innovative hip-hop label of all time.

Stones Throw? Adult Swim? Any of this ringing a bell?

I can't understand how he ended up playing at Pershing Square and I missed it. Won't miss the Tubes.

I saw Butterworth last night. Rad set with video...how does he do that? I think there was an androgynous theme going on...Little Richard, Prince, Mick Jagger, James Brown, some crazy '80s dudes, some crazy '70s dudes, etc

I was there 4 The Tubes. I went up to meet Fee afterward and had a picture taken with him. My 4th Tubes show {1985-2010}. The band was tight, Prairie was still tighter than drummers half his age-he's awesome! The sound was kinda' shoddy. But I didn't mind having a slight wine-buzz. It was really cool, but they're not the live band they used to be with the girls and the elaborate staging. Shame really... Still, good show except for Fee's off key vox & the 3(!) cover songs. What's up with that. We came there for TUBE'S songs dudes not a overly long instrumentalS like "Third Stone". The setlist was just OK, [minus TV Is King, Amnesia, Don't want to wait, & the covers. Really missed Mondo Bondage, Tubes World Tour, Madam I'm Adam, Slipped My Disco, Attack Of The Fifty Foot Woman, Theme Park, Wild Women Of Wongo, and of course Dont Touch Me There-which they probably will never play live again due to not wanting to hire a fem singer.
