LAPD today released video of a violent Fashion District robbery attempt in which six suspects beat the owner of a wholesale store and his employee before fleeing empty-handed.

The owner of Fashion 2000 at 124 E. 11th Street was unloading merchandise in an alley behind his store when he was attacked by four men, at least one of whom was carrying a gun. Their struggle takes them first inside the store and then back into the alley. A camera inside the store shows the suspects beating an employee as well.

The incident, which took place on August 30, may be connected to other robberies in the neighborhood.

“We think this crew is responsible for other cargo thefts in the Fashion District,” said Lt. Paul Vernon, commanding officer of the Central Detective Division. “We’ve been looking for suspects in a white van who steal merchandise the wholesalers’ delivery vans on the street. If the same crew, it appears they’ve escalated their crime to armed robbery.”

The video shows two vehicles believed to be used in the crime: a silver Nissan Altima and a white Ford cargo van.

“We are trying to enhance the license plates of the vehicles to help identify them, but the public can save us a lot of time by telling us who these guys are,” Lt. Vernon added. “The suspects got away with nothing but their freedom, but we’d like to take that away from them now.”

Anyone with information on the incident or the suspects is asked to call Detective Al Rasch, Central Robbery Unit, at (213) 972-1245.
