Around the Halls: September 20 - 22, 2010
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Today is Monday, September 20, and council returns from its short recess to jump back into the hot issues of the day. LAX concessions will likely again be Monday's big item, but the Downtown calendar includes funding for El Pueblo events, grants for Broadway repairs and sidewalk repairs at 1st and Alameda.
MONDAY: Three committees meet.
At Budget & Finance committee, CF 10-0600-S36 is a Huizar motion asking that El Pueblo be directed to fund special events like the Blessing of the Animals from uncommitted funds in the department's budget. General fund money for the events was removed for 2010-2011.
The Board of Referred Powers will again meet to discuss LAX concessions at 2pm.
TUESDAY: Council is in session, and five committees join it.
At Council, item 8 is CF 09-3070, the LASED specific plan changes that have been working their way through the system for the last year. They give AEG permission to add broadcast studio and office space to the Olympic North parcel, across the street from L.A. Live.
Item 19 is CF 10-1283, a motion authorizing CDD to enter into a $14-million New Market Tax Credits loan agreement with the developer of the One Santa Fe project in the Arts District.
Item 21 is CF 10-0876, a motion directing GSD to report back in 30 days on the status of an RFP to find a food vendor for City Hall's second floor.
WEDNESDAY: Council meets, as do three committees.
At Housing, Community and Economic Development is CF 10-1272, a motion authorizing CRA to spend $118,000 to rebuild the sidewalk on the west side of Alameda between 1st and 2nd, removing three ficus trees and adding new trees.
CF 10-1271 is a CRA motion asking for authorization to make grant funds available to Broadway property owners doing sidewalk glass block replacement or architectural lighting. Also included is a $50k bump for the Melendrez streetscape contract and a $60k contract with Ruzika Company to manage lighting design and permitting.
