Violent Pre-Halloween Robbery Caught on Tape

LAPD: Cal Liquidators Robbery LAPD

Still from surveillance video released by LAPD shows a man wearing a Hannibal Lector mask during an October 29 robbery.

Video of a violent daytime robbery of an Arts District wholesale business was released by the LAPD today showing three men shoving guns into the faces of customers and employees.

On October 29th at around 4:10pm, police say three Hispanic men, armed with guns, stormed in thru the cargo entrance of California Liquidators at 664 South Santa Fe Avenue. One of the men was wearing a "Hannibal Lecter" mask while the other partially covered their facies with hoodies.

“Thankfully, no one was hurt, this time,” said Lt. Paul Vernon, head of LAPD's Central Division Detectives. "One customer, a woman, was actually kicked in the shoulder while she lay on the floor, even though she was obeying their commands."

The suspects fled in a white or silver Toyota Camry with $6,000 in cash.

Lt. Vernon is seeking the public's help in identifying the suspects. “Typically, suspects will share information or brag about their exploits,” he said. “We’d like anyone with information to come forward and help us identify them.”

Anyone with information on this crime is urged to call Detective Al Rasch, Central Robbery Unit, at (213) 972-1245. Anonymous tips can be called into Crimestoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477), or by texting 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S) with a cell phone. All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.” Online tips may be placed at www.LAPDOnline.org, click on “webtips” and follow the prompts.

Gosh - sorry to learn about this! Thank you for posting how to communicate info with the LAPD. This is great info to have!

The worst thing about these sad children street thugs is how carelessly they wave around a (I'm assuming) loaded weapon. One slip of the finger could accidentally kill someone whom they're only trying to scare. I hope they briefly learn what a trigger guard is before LT Vernon catches 'em.

That stuff will end up being sold as sidewalk retail in front of the old Greyhound terminal at 6th and Los Angeles. Fellas like Pineapple Face, Former Wheelchair Guy with Chihuahua (he seems to have prosthetic legs these days), Tall Froggy Guy with Back-of-the-neck Scar, the Beard, and Moustache/Hat Guy will offer you the goods.

I think these are the guys that mugged me on Main Street last year. They left in a gold mid- to late-90s Corolla. They were amateurs then, looks like they learned a few things since then.

Actually, now that I think about it, it was over a year ago. Still fresh in my mind though.

The cops need to plan some kind of stakeout on Santa Fe between 6th and 7th, and also on Jesse Street. There have been countless breakin's from parked cars.. There is broken window glass EVERYWHERE! I would say about 4 breakins a week! We need to get some police attention down here and bust these guys, and the drug addicts looking for anything they can steal that's not bolted down!

Someone should install some video cameras on that block - even if they are portable ones that are only up temporarily.
