DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — L.A. Live's 54-foot LED tree may have stayed the same over the three years that the complex has held holiday festivities, but the show used to unveil it has evolved quite a bit since Britney Spears came on stage to engage in awkward banter with Adam Carola in 2008.
For 2010, the tree was unveiled via a tightly scripted one-hour special broadcast live on KTLA. Plain White T's, 10-year-old Willow Smith, Seal, Jessica Lowndes of 90210, 13-year-old Greyson Chance and Stevie Wonder each performed one song, while 2010 Olympic Gold Medalist Evan Lysacek took a turn around the complex's ice skating rink and Cirque Bezerk warmed up the night with a fire-breathing performance. A pair of Rockettes flipped the switch to light the tree.
The complex's holiday lights and ice rink will be up through the end of the year.

Wow... Very interesting lineup. I didn't know Stevie was going to be there. Great photos.

For heavens sake AEG needs to get rid of "Robo-Tree"!! it just adds to the sterile and coldness of the complex, hopefully soon they try to get a real tree like other areas of the city have (i.e the Grove), to add some kind of warmth to the complex, come on AEG pull it together!

I'm guessing they won't re-air it? I'd love to see it. Does anyone know what it was called? (The guide on my TV won't allow me to go back.)
I walked by at 5:15pm and there was a nice crowd- it wasn't a crazy zoo. I wished I could have stayed.

That metal tree is an embarrassment to LA Live and LA in general. I went there for the 2008 lighting ceremony and that metal tree was so cold and sterile.

I was there as well. The tree is VERY disappointing. The show was produced in such a way that unless you were right up front you couldn't hear anything. They projected the acts on the screens but there was only very poor sound. We stayed 3 minutes and left.

I love the metal tree..because it's so unique and original. If you want ANOTHER green tree, go to City Hall, Music Center, Union Station, City National Bank Towers, nearly every downtown residential building (too many too name), nearly every office downtown building (again, too many to name), etc... And I'm still not including the dozens of public trees in the rest of LA.
The LA Live! tree is cool because it offers a digital showing. Where else in the world can you see that? Nowhere. As much as people complain here about everything LA does, keep in mind there are people around the world that probably get bored to death of the same darn tree. We have it mixed in with entertainment...and that's what makes it awesome!

I'm so glad they didn't invite Britney Spears back... that is the opposite of the image we're trying to bring to downtown.
