Possible Trespasser Halts Traffic on 8th

8th Street was closed at Broadway this morning around 9am as LAPD units investigated reports that someone was trespassing inside the Garfield Building at 403 W. 8th.

An air support unit circled overhead at 9am as officers investigated the scene from the ground floor.

The 1928 building is currently empty.

Update (11:35am): Lt. Paul Vernon, head of Central Division detectives, tweeted this update a few minutes ago:

K9 looking for burgs in Garfield bldg at 8th and Hill. w/b traf on 8th closed btwn Broadwy + Olive; s/b traf closed 7th to 9th.

Update (2pm): One suspect was arrested inside the building. Police suspect that he may have been trying to steal copper piping and could have been connected to other copper thefts in the area.
