Around the Halls: January 3 - 5, 2011
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Today is Monday, January 3, and the new year gets off to a slow start this week for L.A.'s City Council. Ballot items, special events and the First Street Viaduct are on the agenda as meetings gradually return.
MONDAY: Meetings of the Public Safety and Budget and Finance committees are cancelled.
TUESDAY: Council returns to action, but only a single committee meeting is scheduled.
Council will vote on summaries for ten measures it is placing on the March 2011 ballot as CF 11-1100-S12. Included is library funding, campaign finance reform, a tax on oil production and DWP reform measures.
At Audits and Governmental Efficiency committee, reports are scheduled on audit followups for Recreation and Parks, the L.A. Zoo and the CRA.
WEDNESDAY: Council meets again, as do the Personnel and Public Works committees.
Special events are again on the agenda for Public Works committee, which has scheduled and continued items relating to notification and payments several times already. CF 10-1875 is an annual report for the Special Events "One Stop Shop" program, while CF 09-3042 would require organizers to be responsible for public notification and CF 09-3044 would allow non-profits to pay their event fees on an installment plan.
Also at Public Works is CF 08-0508-S4, a report on funding needs for the widening of the First Street Viaduct. The item was continued by the committee in December, but has to be taken up this time around as it has been scheduled to go to Council on January 7.
