A series of weekend workshops organized by the CRA discuss plans to give the Fashion District a new look.

Downtown’s Fashion District is in need of a makeover and planners are looking to residents and business owners in the neighborhood on what would be a more flattering style.

The Community Redevelopment Agency gave engineering and environmental company AECOM $1 million to conduct an 18-month study to help identify the problems in the area. This weekend, they are hosting a series of workshops that will discuss the project for those invested in the District’s success.

Residents in the area voiced their concerns, saying that the area needs better lighting, public bathrooms, and more space for dogs. Local business owners think there is a need for public art, more security, and more trees to bring the District to its full potential.

The CRA wants to create more public spaces from city-owned pieces of land that will make the neighborhood a show-stopper.

Three community meetings are scheduled for January 27-29 that will offer community members the chance to learn more about the efforts to make bring the Fashion District back to life.

All workshops are open to the public.

Breakfast Roundtable: Thursday, January 27 (10-11am). This session is oriented towards members of local businesses community.

Weekday Workshop: Thursday, January 27 (6-8pm).

Weekend Workshop: Saturday, January 29 (10am-noon). Unlike the weekday workshop, Saturday’s workshop will include a walking tour.
