Police are searching for an assailant who this morning shot a man at point blank range before robbing him in the southern Fashion District.

The assailant shot the victim on on Pico Boulevard between Main and Los Angeles, took his personal belongings, and fled the scene.

"Our victim was sipping on his cup of coffee, like he does every day, waiting for his boss to pick him up," said Lt. Paul Vernon, commanding officer of the Central Detective Division. "The suspect came out of nowhere and shot him point blank in the face."

The victim, a 25-year-old male fell to the ground and the 18-year-old assailant proceeded to steal the victim's belongings before fleeing the scene.

The victim summoned for police shortly after. After a broadcast was aired on police radio, local Business Improvement District security officers reported they saw a "young, tall Hispanic man in the area."

According to an LAPD press release, when the security officers made eye contact with the man, he "removed a green shirt from around his neck then wiped his face and ran."

LAPD is asking for help to locate that man, who was wearing a baseball cap, a white shirt with gray writing with an Ed Hardy style print.

Anyone with information is urged to call Detective Amy Sundquist, Central Robbery Unit, at (213) 972-1244.
