The 1939 Union Station building (bottom left) is located just across the railroad tracks from Metro's headquarters at One Gateway Plaza (top right).

On Thursday, Metro's board of directors will again discuss a potential purchase of Los Angeles' historic Union Station. It's been nearly two months since the transit agency first confirmed that it was in talks to buy the 1939 station, and three since the vague item first showed up on a board agenda.

In early January, Roger Moliere, Metro's head of Real Property Management & Development, said that he expected a purchase to come before the board in February as an open session item. He was half right: the item is on Thursday's agenda, but only as a closed session conference.

The California High-Speed Rail Project has been mentioned as a likely partner on the Union Station purchase. That agency's board of directors will meet in Los Angeles one week after the Metro board meeting.
