DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — If Main Street traffic near City Hall is a little slower than normal on Thursday, don't route around it. The block between 1st and Temple will be the site of a drive-through relief fund drive raising money for those affected by last week's deadly earthquake in Japan.
The drive is organized by the offices of Councilmembers Jan Perry and Bernard Parks, Rafu Shimpo, LA18 and the Red Cross. A similar 2010 drive raised $130,000 for Haiti relief—though $109,389 came via a check from Radio Korea.
Volunteers will be on the street between 6am and 6pm. Those interested in helping out the effort can call Perry's office at 213-473-2308 or email info@janperry.com.
