Courtyard and Residence Inn for L.A. Live

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Marriott's Courtyard and Residence Inn brands will share a 22-story, 377-room hotel tower to be built across Olympic Boulevard from L.A. Live.
AEG announced on Tuesday that it is selling half of the Olympic North parcel to a group led by Portland's Williams/Dame & Associates, part of the South Group development team that constructed the Elleven, Luma and Evo towers just a few blocks away.
According to the L.A. Times, construction will start in March of 2012, with the hotels opening in 2014.
The tower would be located directly across the street from the J.W. Marriott and Ritz-Carlton, a pair of Marriott brands. Those two hotels, which total 1,001 rooms, share a 54-story tower with 224 condo units.
The new development will occupy the eastern half of the Olympic North site, which sits between Francisco and Georgia. While AEG had entitled the land for broadcast studio use, a company executive last month said that additional hotel uses may go on the site.

If THAT is the best visual angle by which the new hotel will be seen, it looks as though future customers will be left panting, anticipating, looking forward to their very next convention booking in downtown L.A.
What should we call it?
L.A. Dead?
(because it is a perfect illustration of how to deconstruct the goose that laid the golden egg)?

Although I'm glad to have more hotel options downtown, I don't like the design and I don't like the monopoly that Marriott has on LA Live.

I've heard (read) a substantial amount of negative feedback regarding the design of this new planned tower. More than usual (even for LA). Hence, even though I don't think it's a HORRIBLE design (it's definitely NOTHING to run home about), the developers (Williams and Dame) should definitely listen somewhat to their "DTLA fanbase." As a developer, wouldn't you WANT people to like your work?

Not bad for a truck stop motel. Will there be parking for big rigs?
