517 W. 7th was built in 1979 for the Okada restaurant.

Downtown's smallest residential development may be underway on 7th Street, where the top floor of the 1979 Okada building is being converted to one residential unit as part of a major renovation.

Building plans for the four-story structure, located at 517 W. 7th, show retail or restaurant use on the first and second floors and offices on the third floor.

Originally a Japanese restaurant, the structure has long stood vacant.

The property was purchased in 2005 by Michael Su, CEO of the Michael Antonio Footwear Group. Property site Loopnet shows that the property was put back up for sale in 2008, but was taken off the market.

The renovation is being designed by Barbara Flammang of Killefer Flammang Architects.

Finally! I have been asking the folks at Mas Malo and Seven Grand but no one had any idea what this was all about. That place has been gutted to steel girders!
