Downtown will be the center of the world for both jocks and nerds this week, as Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference and ESPN's 2011 ESPY Awards collide at L.A. Live.

The Microsoft conference, which kicked off on Sunday with a Day of Giving street fair and carnival, gets into high gear on Monday morning as CEO Steve Ballmer takes the stage inside Staples Center to deliver a vision keynote.

The conference is touted as a big get for Los Angeles because of its international attendee base. While events like the Auto Show bring far more people to the Convention Center, large conferences like the Worldwide Partner Conference generate far more hotel stays and economic impact for a host city. A little over 15,000 attendees are signed up for the 2011 affair.

Wednesday, more eyes will be focused on L.A. Live at ESPN airs a live broadcast of the 2011 ESPY Awards, its annual event honoring top athletes and performances in all sports. The ESPYs are in their 19th year, and have been hosted at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live since 2008.
