Patrons leave the Central Library on Thursday, July 7.

The doors of the Central Library will open on a Monday for the first time in a year next week, as the Library system restores a day of service that it cut in July of last year as a result of budget cuts.

Don't hold your breath for the return of Sunday service, though: the library's plans don't return Sunday service to any branches until the 2014-2015 fiscal year.

City voters passed Measure L in March, shifting property taxes to funnel more funds to the Library department. The measure requires that seven-day service be restored within three years.

Starting on Monday, July 18th, the Central Library will be open from 10am to 5:30pm on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. It will be open 10am to 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
