Mutts mingle at the 2010 Dog Day Afternoon event, which attracted 537 dogs and 1,017 people.

Downtown's largest four-legged mixer returns on Tuesday as the Downtown Center Business Improvement District and the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels host the 5th annual Downtown Dog Day Afternoon.

The event has taken off since its 2007 launch, which brought 50 dogs and 80 pet owners to the Cathedral courtyard. Last year's 4th event attracted 1,017 people and 537 dogs.

As always, the event will be hosted by the BID's Hal Bastian and Monsignor Kevin Kostelnik.

The open-house format event runs from 6 to 9pm, and RSVPs are encouraged at downtownla.com.
